Do you want it to pick up your elliptical steps or not? I'm confused I wear it like normal and either hold on to the swinging arms or let my arms swing naturally and it picks up about 80%. Most ellipticals have a stride counter, so you could either adjust out (if you don't want those counted) or adjust in (if you want them accurate). Just check your steps before you start

I do want it to pick up elliptical steps, I just didn't know if it sometimes had trouble because you're not actually taking steps? I always use the swinging arm bar things so I'm guessing that helps. I've only had it for two days so I'm still getting into swing of how I'll use it personally. I haven't logged any calories/food, nor any activity other than my steps (like I haven't separated my walk/jog last night from my general steps). Initially I'm using it as a tool to help me be more cognizant of how much physical activity I'm doing during the day, and to keep myself accountable. In the next few weeks I plan to more towards using the calorie/meal tracker as well but my biggest reason for getting it was to see how active I really am and finding ways to improve/motivate myself to move more throughout the day.

I really love that effect of the Fitbit!

I would probably just enter elliptical workouts as a separate activity. IMO, the point of counting steps is to note how active you are throughout the day...stepping in place doesn't feel like it fulfills that goal? Maybe it's just me though. On the other hand it counts for a calorie burn; by entering it with details like the resistance you used on the machine, you'll be able to count it accurately for that!

So I just got a fitbit and hate it so far. As soon as I wake up it says I've already burned like 1,200 cal. And even though I just worked out and hour it says I've only exercised for seven minutes. What am I doing wrong cuz I'm ready to ship this thing back to Amazon.

            Which model do you have?

At my height and weight I am burning about a calorie per minute just to work my heart and lungs, so yes, I have several hundred calories on the monitor when I wake up even if it's been on my bedside table. What kind of working out are you doing? If it's not walking or running on actual ground, you will probably get a more accurate calorie count by manually entering the activity.

That's what I have and it sucks at tracking workouts like that
