  • Barre or the bar method

    I know we have quite a few people who do it. So I thought this would be a good place to share workouts from different studios.

    Plus we can talk about the horrible pain.

    I love Barre3, but I've never done Bar Method. I've heard Bar a Method involves more cardio.

      I like Bar Method because of the light weights although sometimes we'll use a small ball. The only cardio our class does is a short warm up at the beginning and I'm proud that I can do regular push-ups now. I still don't like them but it's progress...My friend does cardio bar and dropped all her baby weight in a couple of months. She's all muscle now.

        We only have barre-be-fit and pure barre. I wasn't a huge fan of bbf. It was sort of similar to what I was doing before we moved, but it was just too easy. I had done pure barre before we moved for like two weeks - groupon - but the hiit/barre combo studio I went to was a way better workout for a way better price. BUT now that I've been doing PB I do like it, and isn't nearly as hard on my body as my old studio was. It is, however, really pricey. $225/mo. Gah!!

          This sounds exactly like the Barre3 classes I take. TBH, the only reason I do Barre3 instead of Bar Method is because they have childcare. I think the prices are the same and it sounds like the workouts are very similar.

            Is there much difference between the classes? It doesn't sound like it..? I tried a Tabata/Bar fusion class once and didn't go back because I didn't want to die.

              Tabata barre is the best!!! I think there are basically two types - the cardio/tabata barre hybrid and just barre.

              My favorite class at my old studio was ballet box - which was kind of a barre, tabata, kickboxing mix. LOVED it.

                The have a level 2 class that is more cardio but honestly my heart rate gets up there during thigh work. And we also do arms then 50 pushes ups , then plank and then 30 more push-ups. I am gasping for air. I am not sure if that is from pain or cardio.

                  This is where I was taking classes, they were awesome I just haven't been able to get them into my schedule lately. http://www.fusionfitness.com They are a combo fusion/barre/tabata.
                  Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

                    As a former dancer...working on the barre always kicked my behind. I never could convince DH how little adjustments and small movements can be a tough "workout"....he is a gym/competitive sport type. I wonder how similar these barre classes are...any of you taken dance before? I haaaaate working out/gym type of classes. I hesitate to try it because I am afraid it is just a trend where they took ballet and turned it into a gym like atmosphere. Kind of what they did with traditional pilates and yoga. I don't want to hear "feel the burn" . However, if it is really barre work, I think I would enjoy it.
                    Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

                      I took dance for years and it is similar to the same workout. Obviously it is not 100% the same but the same principle is applied. Good form and 1in movements. Controlling ur movements and so on

                        Although you probably will feel pretty intense burning..... But it isn't like a spin class in terms of the instructor telling at you to push harder.

                        Pure barre does mention "shaking" quite a bit- like "if you aren't shaking sink lower" etc. And shaking f'ing burns. So if that would annoy you, I'd stay away from pure barre.

                          I'm so not a cardio person unless it's in the form of sex with SO. Former dancer here too, so I appreciate the focus it takes on making the tiny movements precise. I tried to talk SO into yoga but he looked at me like I was crazy so it's very doubtful he'd understand any kind of bar class

                            I'm kind of amazed that the results I see are really similar whether or not there is a cardio/tabata/hiit element to the class. I do run and occasionally I'll do done burpees and glide disk exercises on my own, but I always do.

                            I think I can focus on making the movements smaller and more deliberate when it's just a barre class? Idk, but I do think it's kind of interesting. Maybe I didn't need to torture myself the way I was! Lol.
