  • Emotional eating

I've got it bad. As many of you know, my oldest is graduating from high school this weekend. I've got family coming in and it's just generally busy. Time is FLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYING by. Anyhoo, there was a senior projects open house this morning and lots of other senior parents were there. Much talking about the graduation. College. All that. The projects ended and my son loaded his stuff up in my car, asked if I'd mind running it home and if it would be ok for him to get lunch with his friends. Then, he jumped in a car with a bunch of guys and drove off.

I came home and ate a piece of leftover pie.

Then, it *was* lunch time -- so I had some leftovers.

Now, it's afternoon, so I just made myself a cookie in a mug.

    WTF????

    I'm a MESS!!

I really need to get a handle on the emotional eating. I'm not sure what to do to substitute for it. I could exercise, but it's more like "I have ten minutes, I'm all anxious and emotional..... What can I eat quickly?" It doesn't happen with long breaks, it's the little moments.

I tried to sit and read to calm my nerves this afternoon, then my senior popped in to chat before running off with his friends again. (Enter, cookie in a mug.)

    Sigh.

I am weak. And soon to be very fat, I guess.

Brush your teeth! Usually you don't want to eat right after! Plus, squeaky clean teeth!

ETA Do as I say, not as I do

Chew gum? Or is there a yummy, low cal drink that you could enjoy? Like some Crystal Light or sparkling water.

Or, what about portioning out a certain amount of ____ (favorite snack), and leaving it out. When it's gone, it's gone? (Although, I'm with Mrs. MD, Esq )

Drink a big glass of water? I've been keeping the "lightly sweetened" Boom Chicka Pop on hand because 3 cups is 120 cals. Be careful of those mug recipes...I think the cake one I've made had about 700 cals!

What about a quick drop into a couple yoga positions? Gum? (I'm really no help, because I'm known to shovel it in while stressed!)

Chewing gum and chugging Crystal Light are both great go-to methods I'd forgotten. I'm out of both gum and drink mixes, of course. I will stock up when I go tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me! My brain is fried. I am also out of Spark, my advocate caffeinated vitamin drink, and I think it's given me fuzzy brain. All I can think is....chocolate, good. Brownie, good. Oy.

Speaking of Crystal Light, I just bought these last night. http://www.sparklingice.com/?gclid=C...FSsV7AodkQcAaQ They're sweetened with Splenda and have zero calories. I tried the strawberry lemonade and thought it was pretty good! (but yeah, chocolate would be better. So much better.)

I bet it's just the stress of graduation. Do your best and sign up for some extra yoga classes when you can.

At least he's being healthy and independent! All good (but hard) things.

                Big huge hugs!!!

I am starting a big Nalgene water bottle with lemon. Just say no, I say. No!

The mug recipe was a total eye opener for me; I know they are terribly caloric and yet some part of my primitive brain was just like, "F it. I've got a tablespoon and a microwave. I'm going for it." Then I felt terrible. I'm clearly eating for all the wrong reasons today. I'm not even hungry. Or craving. I'm just exercising very bad habits in stress management.

Ladybug: I've missed yoga class due to the crazy schedule for the last three days. For someone that goes daily, that's probably the trouble right there. I need a lot of ujjayi and chanting just to stay level, apparently! Going tonight.

Yeah...that's just normal background thoughts for me...

Try the Tazo Focus tea for chocolate cravings...it had cocoa peel in it and does the trick for me when I'm craving sweets (I'm always craving sweets)...

I've got nothing for you because last night I was eating Nutella straight from the jar. I just need some resolution in my life right now. Along with 100 grand. Anyone able to help with either?

Have you tried La Croix sparkling waters? They are amazing. No calories, no artificial sweeteners, no sodium or any of that stuff in flavored mineral waters. They really seem to satisfy my sweet tooth and fill my stomach for a bit.

They sell them at target and whole foods - and then a bunch of random grocery stores (you can find the closest location on the website).

I wouldn't trade my stress for yours Kris. I'm also out of Nutella. Hmmm. Eventually, I will have to go to the grocery store. Let's hope I'm in the right frame of mind.

Our Costco has dark chocolate covered dry fruits. I keep a 1/4 cup measurer in the bag (180 cals) and allow myself 1 scoop a day. Also, the Healthy Choice fudge bars are as close to Jello Pudding bars as I've found and are only 100 cals

I'll second La Croix - they even have some new flavors.
