  • Sports bras: support vs. lung capacity

So, I started jogging again a few weeks ago, and thus I pulled out my sports bras. I'm down to two that haven't lost all their elasticity, a Moving Comfort that I bought at an REI sale a few months ago, and a Title 9, 5-dumbbell one whose brand I forget, that I bought...um, definitely before my half marathon in 2008. Maybe *way* before that.

Both of these bras do a good job restricting bounce, but when I wore the heavy-duty one (the thing is seriously like armor) I struggled to breathe after an intense interval, and even the newer one (that I ordered according to my more current, larger band size) makes me notice it when I'm huffing and puffing.

Stupid question time: is it supposed to do this? Before I used to run, I biked, and bounce wasn't a factor there, so my less-supportive bras were fine, and I could heave and pant and wheeze without issue. Can anyone suggest a favorite bra for a D cup or above that marries the dual functions of not letting your boobs hit your chin on every stride but still letting you actually, you know, oxygenate?

I'm watching this, too. Finding a good sports bra to wear during this breaatfeeding stage has been impossible. Right now I have to wear two bras to stop the bounce, and it's super uncomfortable.

I'm a 32C/30D and like the Tata Tamer from Lulu Lemon, although I think they changed the style a little. Bought it because of people's suggestions on this board! Good job of wicking and nothing moves.

I have had good luck with Victoria's Secret sports bras of late. The half yearly sales and stuff have really good deals. They support well and I haven't noticed problems breathing. Can't wear the old style sports bra anymore.

Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

Tatatamer from Lululemon. Best sport/activity bra ever. It hooks in the back like a regular bra. I love it...it supports well yet comfortable. I hate sports bras that you have to wiggle yourself into.

Oh and although pricey, mine have held up very well...as in for at least 5-6 years well.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Um, so for reference, this my Serious Bra. I got it from a boutique womens' sports store many moons ago: http://www.titlenine.com/product/313...n#.VRSWAGR4pfY

Nothing. Moves. I was breastfeeding my 1-year-old when I was training for my half, and I had some pretty serious boobies (I think we measured me at 34DD?) but you wouldn't know it when I strapped into that thing. Maybe I should just get that one again. But the new one, http://www.rei.com/product/865925/mo...-2013-closeout, is really decent. I wore it today for 4.5 miles and it was definitely not as tight as the other, and provided good support. Maybe I should just try a bigger size or something.

I've said my 2cents...bought others at first but always went back to the tatatamer. My only beef is with the colors. I only have black because some of the other ones are sometimes cray-zy.

I looked it up but the specs wouldn't load. I will try again later. Two recommendations is nothing to sneeze at!

I'll look into purchasing one. I need something, since I'm an E (!) cup while nursing. 😱

Okay, so the consensus seems to be that one should be able to pant heavily during a sprint interval without constriction, but still not get boob bounce? I will increase my expectations for a bra! I see that Lululemon does have free shipping on returns so that makes it a little easier to swallow the price. I will look around.

If you ever get off the island, there's a lululemon store at Alderwood, too.

Looks like they run REALLY small, too (like for 33"-35" band measurement, the size chart recommends their bras labelled 38, for some completely insane reason). WTF is up with that?

They probably don't make my size then.

This what I have and I liked it very much from what I remember, as I haven't worn it in a year. I'm a F-G cup all the time. I have another one too, I will have to find it and post a link.

Ah, I saw all these reviews from people saying they usually wore a smaller size but were testing a bigger size -- and it was still too tight. I was confused but that explains it.

And yeah, looking at the bra size chart, if I read it right a 36D would purchase a 40A? And they don't make that. But...hm, I just measured myself and it seems my measurements are changing as I lose weight. I might be able to squeeze into a size they do make.
