I am having hip, foot, and butt pain so I'm running less than ever and doing yoga. I picked up a commercial grade elliptical off of Craigs list. Even using the elliptical at full out speed with the arm pulls is not as demanding on the heart and lungs as a run, but I compensate by adding weights or yoga at the end. To make it less mentally painful, I pop on my Amazon prime stream and it's doable. I don't love it like a good run, but I can tolerate it and my body screams less afterwards. I think elliptical is a fantastic option to relieve some pain. There is a ton of this type of equipment used, so peak around and see what you can find. Don't go less than light commercial grade, however. There is a lot of crap out there. In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.
