I was able to lose 30 lbs last fall in 7 weeks by getting in 12,000 Fitbit steps a day (fast walks) and tracking my intake of about 1500 calories per day on MyFitnessPal. I got 20lb of those back since Christmas but I'm now checking to see if I can lose another 30lb, perhaps over a slightly longer period of time. Results so far for week 1.
