• The Unspoken Elements of Female Fat Loss

https://www.facebook.com/JamesSmithP...dc4crgasNMGbd0

I saw this tonight and thought it was really interesting. I don't have the background to say whether it is 100% accurate, but I have noticed differences within my cycle. Im inclined to start looking at stats monthly. It does help explain why I was suddenly able to run the half marathon of my life in Dec (after not doing the best I could at training) 1 week into my cycle!

Very interesting. It seems to make sense. I'd never connected it with my cycle but my appetite certainly goes up and down. I have been failing on the working out front too but when I was regularly exercising I noticed I had ups and downs related to where I was in my cycle.

I read parts of this awhile ago and then it just wasn't the right time. I've tried to find so many reasons and excuses for why I wasn't meeting my goals this just seems like another one. If I'm not losing weight it's because I'm consuming more calories than I burn, end of story. But then again, I'm also not weighing so that makes life easier. I believe what this article says can be true but I don't know that it supersedes the calorie in / calorie out rule.

Oh for sure. But I might not hate myself so much if I focus on monthly measurements/weight taken at the beginning of my cycle vs beating myself up on weeks where I did everything right but lost nothing or little. I actually have 9 months of weight loss/cycle data from last year I could go look at, but I was breastfeeding, so there's that. Maybe in a few months I'll look at my stats and see if there is any correlation.

Ugh - around my cycle nothing happens. AND the weird thing is I crave salt and just end up more puffer-fish-like.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Oh totally. I think it probably also means more to women who don't use hormonal birth control. But mostly it seems like something I'd really take into consideration once I'm ready to track progress beyond a pair of jeans.

BTW I ran across this article today and wow was it a read.

Oh wow. My favorite outtakes (plus loved the whole Oprah bit at the end, of course).

"fat people began to wonder what it might be like to put all this aside and just live their lives"

"The harder you are on yourself, the worse you do.’’

"*So in the meantime, a fat person has to consider the data she has access to — meaning studies, yes, but also her own experience and the experience of her fat peers — and ask: Do you believe that you, a fat person, can ever be meaningfully thinner for a meaningful amount of time?"

The main cycle difference i notice is I'm so much more fatigued the week surrounding my period, and for me fatigue usually means less active, more food.

Good read. Honestly, she looks a lot like me (because of course I googled her)

I did start Weight Watchers again because I needed something to motivate me after I hit a horrible plateau that dragged on for months. I'm not really a huge fan of their new system, but as long as I'm losing, I stay motivated. Although 2 lbs in a month is sort of infuriating to me. It's interesting--almost everyone there has been a member before and the leader isn't shy about pointing that out. It's an interesting range of people--one woman reached her goal of 100+ lbs lost at my second meeting. So people do it.

That last quote in particular is so powerful.
SoonerTexan WW was my first diet-- middle school. Looking back at pictures I did lose weight but it came back as soon as I stopped. It's a wonderful plan and I think the community aspect of it plays a huge role.

Our healthcare system gets us Naturally Slim at a reduced cost. https://www.naturallyslim.com/about

I do not know how to diet but this, this I could do. It is behavior modification and I think far more sustainable...at least for me. It is pricey though...but I suppose just as pricey as buying supplements, shakes, videos, etc.

Yeah, "for a meaningful amount of time" is exactly the conundrum. I actually looked into WW when I moved thinking it would be a nice activity for me as a SAHM in a new area. I think last year someone posted an article on here about whether you're the type of person who does things for yourself or for others/ what the source of your motivation is. For me, for being healthy, I absolutely need that accountability to others that if I eat endless amounts of chocolate and cookie dough I'm letting others down. Bc if it's just me, I'll be more than pleased with that decision and repeat tomorrow and the next day until I get the jiggly thighs, clothes don't fit wake up call.

Interesting stuff! This is the one thing I hate about the Mirena. Last week I was so motivated and loving workouts and this week I have muscle aches all over and I'm exhausted. I have no idea where I am in my cycle either, although this is the first time in a while that I've felt PMS'ish. Maybe everything is evening out.
The one fault I have with this is days 0-14 would include your period. I don't know anyone who is even motivated during that time. Maybe after though.

Did you end up joining WW? It sounds like an excellent idea!

So I posted the NYT article to my Facebook and can anyone guess what happens? Oh yes, college friend who's clearly quit her job for MLM messages me for the first time in, to the month, a decade.
