  • I did my first Orange Theory class on Sunday. My inner thighs are so sore. So sore. But it was awesome and I'm going back tomorrow.

      • I'm not feeling the pace yet on my intervals. I couldn't tell you if im running 6.30 min/miles or 8.30. When I get the feel back it'll help the training as I'm going too hard and blowing on the ¾ mile intervals.

Just over two weeks until the world cross country championships in Edinburgh. Taking the kids to see Mo Farrah and others run like the wind then I'm running the 3 mile race around Holyrood Park. Speed work essential!

        • Did weights and 30 minutes on elliptical yesterday, but then I went out to dinner with my sister, a movie (popcorn), and had drinks with her after. Chose not to record my Weight Watchers weigh-in for today. I'll do better and record it tomorrow. I know I'm cheating... lol!

At the gym now, but just doing 20 minutes of elliptical since we're meeting friends for a movie (more popcorn - my kryptonite). Oh well, I'll get back on track soon! Beautiful weather. Wish I could be outside running, but no child care.

I don't know, that sort of feels like putting the cart before the horse. Wouldn't it be better to go according to your effort (or heartrate, if you feel like picking up a new gadget), and then only after that's established figure out the pace at which you reach that effort? Because like I said, your pace-for-effort will likely be changing a lot as you train. I guess for me, going so hard I'm blowing is the point of intervals. What's your goal effort for these? Anyway, it seems like you were super consistent the last time! Maybe started out a bit fast on the first one (<7 minutes?! Phew!). Keep it up, good luck on the 3-miler!

I'm nearly done reading Proteinaholic and it's really underscoring the whole "doing this to be healthy, not just to shed a couple of pounds" thing. I am going to buy so many fruits and veggies at the store today! I also got a cookbook with recipes for beans -- I love dried beans but can never figure out what to do with them other than basic bean soup, chili, or side dishes.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten out on a walk for a few days, with the weather crappy and with the kids home. DH was home yesterday and I kind of wished he could have watched them while I went out on a long walk, but he had to pack a lot of household stuff into his one day off, so we spent the morning working on the yard and once he got back from his ride in the afternoon, it was dark and my shoes and jacket were still wet from the morning so I opted out. That's two days in a row not making my "active minutes" goal. But my parents are visiting today for a few hours so I will leverage that for some time to get out, I hope! (Shouldn't get my hopes up, but man am I getting twitchy for some exercise.)

            • Mmm, movie theater popcorn. This week I actually wished I had a gym, for the first time since I gave up my membership over a year ago! Twenty minutes is twenty minutes, meets the CDC guidelines for healthy activity levels!

              • Went to class this morning -- 100lbs of stroller & kids is no joke.
It's going to be like this until DS1 goes back to school. Whew!

                  • I have been eating too many sweets! Going to start tracking food after the holidays. Workouts have been consistent, perhaps not intense enough. I ran 4 miles outside yesterday. I want to start doing Crossfit workouts at my gym at the start of the new year.

                    • Did I mention I taught myself to make fudge? LOL. SO MUCH FUDGE being consumed. Love it. Making two more batches before Christmas (DH needs some to take to work for a potluck on Christmas day...)

                      • Officially declaring a goal for 2016: There's a race here in August and I'm going to run the 10k at least. Maybe the half marathon. Meep. (Last year I had the goal to work up to a 10-miler on my own -- two laps of a 5-mile course, not a race. I still want to do that, but I also want something better for my next Christmas letter and to make small talk with my college classmates if we go to my 15 year reunion. Ugh, I'm so insecure.)

                        • Great goal! You'll be great over a 10k or a half. Berlin my big one in April. After that there's a few mountains I'd like to run over.

                            • I was 2.5 minutes slower than last year! Maybe bc it's so warm out. Kept up with these beasts though.

What kinds of mountains? Alps? Scottish hills? I had told myself I didn't have it in me to train for a half again, and that might still be true. Those long runs are hard to schedule for, and getting through training without an injury is an accomplishment in itself -- especially once one is past 30, eh? But if I did the 10k I could figure a good time goal and work on getting faster during the spring and summer. We'll see.
