  • New Years Day

Do you have a traditional New Year's Day meal?

    For me:

    Baked ham
    Collard Greens
    blackeyed peas
    mashed potatoes or grits
    Luanne
    wife, mother, nurse practitioner

    southern girl through and through!

we don't have a traditional meal, but I was always told that you're supposed to have pork on new year's day for good luck.

in all honestly it was pork & sauerkraut, but since I won't touch that stuff, I've changed it to pork. we usually take care of it during the breakfast meal.

For us, it's a traditional Japanese breakfast/lunch/dinner. You basically sit at the table all day and eat. It's great! When we're in Seattle, my mom cooks for us. So, not this year...

There's a Japanese American resident with whom dh works and he invited us over for "brunch." And I knew exactly what he meant.

My mom reminds me to eat my blackeyed peas every year, and every year I forget. I don't have a good recipe -- Luanne, how do you do yours?

I put onion, garlic, and a hamhock in them. My DH (NY Jewish) actually looks forward to this meal!!!
