They do re-visit recipes (after perfecting them ) so that may have been a version at some point. There is also another recipe in the same book that has different types of chocolate in it.

I think these are worth it. Being a maximiser, I have tried more than a few brownie recipes. I *think* I am to a point of using those two as my go to brownie recipe.

        Bake Sale Brownies

        makes 16

8 T (one stick) unsalted butter cut into chunks
        3 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped
        1 c sugar
        2 large eggs
        1 tsp vanilla
        1/2 tsp baking powder
        1/4 tsp salt
        2/3 c flour

        1. Preheat oven to 350. Prepare an 8x8 pan by lining with foil (you want to make a foil "sling" with two long sheets of foil, laid perpendicular to each other, that you will lift out to remove the brownies). Spray foil w/ vegetable oil spray.

        2. Melt the butter and chocolate together in the microwave, stirring often. Don't burn it! I suggest using 50% power. Let the mixture cool slightly.

        3. Whisk sugar, eggs, vanilla, baking powder, and salt in large bowl until combined. Whisk in cooled melted chocolate mixture until smooth. Stir in flour just until no streaks remain.

        4. Scrape batter into prepared pan and smooth over the top. Bake until toothpick comes out clean with just a few crumbs attached, about 22 to 27 minutes. (Start checking on the earlier side, IMO).

        5. Let cool completely on a wire rack to room temp, about 2 hrs. Use the foil sling to lift the brownies out of the pan and then cut into squares.

PS -- if you have a bench scraper, that is a great tool for cutting brownies (push down, don't drag).

PPS -- if you like nuts, sprinkle 1/2 cup chopped nuts on top before baking.
