  • Appetizer to pair with a shiraz

DH and I are going to a wine tasting at a friend's house tonight (jdwc, actually). The evening is all reds, and we're bringing a shiraz. We're also supposed to bring an appetizer to compliment it.

Suggestions??? I'll take suggestions for the wine itself, too. I'm lost -- I'm going more for the social aspect. :anyolne:

I had a Penfold's shiraz a while back. Can't remember more of the name but I remember that so it was somewhat...memorable, right?

Stella likes the Woop Woop. I think that is a shiraz? Or maybe a blend. I agree, it's a nice wine.

Crap. Bringing a blend was a choice, too. Should I go change my answer? I just don't want to embarass myself if these people are into wine.

I forgot to mention we're supposed to stay under $15/bottle.

Uh - Nellie -- the appetizer?? What should I bring???

I checked -- it is straight Shiraz. I can't remember if that is what I had or not.

If I only had a brain...

You can get both of the above for under $15, maybe under $10.

Lots of fun was had by all. We offered a tray of cheddar, sliced baguette, and sliced Granny Smith apples. They were all gone when we left.

I liked the shiraz -- HATED the merlot that someone else brought. The Pinot Noir was fare, and I enjoyed the red zinfandel (I didn't know zin could be red).

It was a very fun evening.

DH would DIE! White Zin is the ONE "wine" that he hates - one of my good friends drinks it and he gives her a hard time every single time. It's pretty funny.

I didn't say my favorite wine is white zin, only that I'd never had / known a red zin before.

We really like the Zinfindel's - although we had one that we absolutely hated at one of our favorite wineries this last week. DH was very disappointed. I don't think red zins are as common, I think its easy to think of white zins first but it bugs DH b/c its a white wine made from a red grape.

We were on a mission to save "pink wine" from itself and actually discovered quite a few rosés that are nice, dry wines.

Basically I went to the Wine Dude at the chi-chi grocery store and told him what our mission was and he thanked me! We found mostly the French and the Italians know their way around the pinks and they were usually very yummy. Good summer wines.

a good blanc de noir makes such a pretty glass o' bubbly, too.
