Pomegranate Tip

After a disasterous pomegranate seed spill, I tempted fate and bought two more. So far, so good.

My mom showed Bryn this great trick for getting the seeds out. She is our chief seeder.

I can attest. I was inspired by Nellie (and shamed by her claim that Bryn does it at their house), and bought two tonight. I seeded two in about 10 minutes. Amazing.

I'll cut and paste it. You hold the chunks underwater so that juice doesn't go everywhere.

How To Open
Three Easy Steps to Get Inside.

Cut off the "crown", then score the outer layer of skin into sections.

In a large bowl of water, break apart the sections along the score lines. Roll out the arils (the sweet juice sacs surrounding a tiny edible seed) with your fingers. The arils will sink to the bottom while the white membrane floats to the top.

Strain out the water. The arils are ready to eat whole, seeds and all.

I would say they are more sweet-tart than bitter.
