Define "affordable". If you're going to mix and a bottle usually lasts for a while, go for a liter (vs 750) and keep it in the freezer. It'll last forever and vodka doesn't freeze, so you don't have to worry about the bottle bursting. I'd recommend Imperia (that's what I currently have). It's cheaper than Grey Goose and depending on the store could be on par with Absolut. Should be around $35-40 for 1L but will last for a while. Ketel One is another good choice.

For drinking straight I prefer Stoli Elite but it's significantly more expensive.

        Svedka. (http://www.svedka.com)

"Svedka is priced lower than high-priced vodkas at about the price of average vodka brands such as Smirnoff. It has received several industry awards, including a rating of 93 points from Wine Enthusiast in 1999 and 2004, and a Gold Medal in the International Wine and Spirit Competition." - Wikipedia

Ketel One scored a 93, too.

SO and I only drink Svedka at home now - pretty great especially considering it is only $20 for a handle!!!!

I usually have Absolut, I'll have to try the Imperia.

When I choose a vodka I go by the headache test, not the taste or other components. Whichever is the one that leaves me in a better state the next morning is the one I stick with. The older I get, the harder it is to digest cheaper stuff, plus newer and cleaner products have hit the market in the past few years.

              My SIL represents Snow Queen.

Several Texas vodkas have been very highly rated- I have a bottle of Dripping Springs and it's super smooth.
