As some of you know, I've been craving these Russian pastas yummies since my return w/ the dude.

So, the crunchy school is having an International Food Fest and I just committed myself to making Pelmeni for a cast of hundreds.

I've just downloaded a bunch of recipes and I will consult my various Russian cookbooks, and I've located a source for the molds that supposedly will make this easier.

Maybe Vishenka will decide to some to San Antonio and I'll let her select uncomfortable shoes that I promise to wear in exchange for her cooking skills.

My mouth is watering at the memory of those little packets of meaty deliciousness though. (they're basically Russian wontons.)

Jenn when are they due? I haven't seen the new forms but my mom used to have this old cast iron one that made about 20 at a time. I've never tried making them but largely because I haven't seen the forms anywhere (I haven't met any Russian in US making these at home). Can you buy them and pretend you made them? I can get some "home-made" from a restaurant if you want and ship them down.

From what I know the recipe isn't hard, it's just time consuming to put them together.

Ordered the molds today from http://www.russianfoods.com

I had about $100 in other foodstuffs in the cart before I remembered that there's a Russian food mart in Austin.

Jenn, that's the mold I was talking about, looks almost like the one my mom had. Let me know how it turns out, I might brave this at some point too.

Their prices aren't bad but the shipping charges don't make it worthwhile. I'd rather drive to Brooklyn for 1.5 hours and pick everything out myself. We have become local distributors of Russian caviar in the area. I think we should start charging for the service, but DH feels bad charging his co-workers.
