Children's Birthday Cakes

DD is have a Mickey Mouse birthday party, and DS will have his own cake there (their birthdays are three weeks apart, with Thanksgiving in between, so I'm just throwing one party). My thought was to make DD either a rectangular cake with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse scene built on top, or a Mickey-head shaped cake. For DS, I was thinking of buying a mold for a stand-up teddy bear. I think, in the future, I could adapt it to make different animal shapes, etc.

For anyone that might have that, or a similar mold...is it a waste? Should I just work to make one without a mold, or do you think I'll use it again?

Or, does anyone have an adorable idea that blows that one away? I'm willing to do something else for DS.

Cupcakes from the grocery store is about as fancy as I get but Heidi and JennP should have some ideas.

When we were kids we used to go to an ice cream shop that made ice cream mice. It was so cute and very easy. Just a scoop of vanilla ice cream with round chocolate wafers for ears, Chocolate chip eyes, a cherry nose. . . I don't remember how they made the wiskers -- licorice maybe?
