  • First Cake

So I'm taking this cake decorating class through community education. I missed last week when we were taught how to make roses so I only made the bottom 3 roses on this cake, my instructor made the top one and I can't even count how many I dumped back into the frosting but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Its just meant to be a general purpose cake.

DH said it was already better then Hy-Vee. My instructor said right now that's a compliment but soon it won't be.

Excellent. Are you mentally plotting Adele's 1st birthday cake?

Yes, I'm planning to do Adele's 1st cake but I really have no idea what I'm going to do at this point. We're having her party at my parents on 12/27 so I'll be making it there.

Of course, I'll probably never make another cake with roses!

                  And my cookies...

I made the pea pod ones for my sister's shower and the Halloween ones for our party tonight. The Halloween ones didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, my frosting was a little runny for some reason.

Wow Cheri! That's an awesome job you did on those Halloween cookies! I also did the witch hats that Tara suggested, but mine looked terrible compared to yours. How did you get your frosting on the cookies to spread so well?

BTW, the roses look great too!

Charlene, I used Royal Icing in a frosting bag with a #3 tip. They were a little runnier then I would have liked.

So here is cake #2 - the border isn't very good b/c my frosting was getting soft.

Next week we do the doll cake, should be interesting!
