    Re: First Cake

Wow! That's beautiful! A cake decorating class would be a lot of fun.

ETA: Do you get a sitter for Adele when you're in class? I've put a lot of those types of things on hold b/c I don't know what I'd do with the kids.

Luckily DH is on research so he's been able to commit to being home those Tuesdays, it was only 6 nights. If he was on service I wouldn't have been able to do it.

Oh, right. DH's research year is next year, but for an evening class, we might even be able to work something out this year...

        Thanks! (Hijack over.)

Ooooh, Pretty cake! I'm so jealous.

When I was a tween, my mom and I took a cake-decorating class together. It was in a conference room of a department store and we were the only people in the class that spoke English -- inclusive of the instructor.

My mom is not much of a baker but we had to have our own cakes to decorate each week. So we made single layer cakes in the microwave. And the frosting that Mom whipped up after the first lesson had to last us for the whole 6 weeks! You can imagine how disgusting it was by the last class.

I never did learn to make roses; They turned out looking like cabbages because we only had soft green icing left by the last class. I think my favorite part of the class - aside from bonding with Mom - was the day we were running late for class. As we rushed through the fine dress department of Burdines (now Macy's), I dropped one of the cakes. Mom was mortified. I thought it was hilarious at the time -- and I still do!

This is one of my favorite Mom memories. You and your little girl will have so much fun decorating cakes when she gets bigger -- and she'll actually learn how to make roses!
