  • Halloween Party Menu

Ok gang, help me out. We're having our annual Halloween party this weekend, if any of you are in the area you're welcome to attend!

Anyway, the invitation said 6-10 b/c last time we decided 7 was to late a start for those with little ones. Well now I'm afraid people will expect more of a meal. The invitation said: "We'll provide finger foods and beverages" so hopefully not but I still want to have a good spread.

This is what I'm thinking so far:
    Decorated Sugar cookies
    Witch hat cookies
Brain shaped cheese mold and crackers
Freezer appetizers (quiches and egg rolls)
    Veggie tray & dip
    Hot cider
    Punch
    Beer
    Soda

Anybody have any easy to make appetizers? I feel like I should have something homemade not just freezer stuff.

What else should we have? I should also mention this is an adult & a kid party.

The party is Saturday night so I'll have all day Saturday with DH at home to get things ready, I'm SO glad we're not doing it Friday night.

Mark Bittman's guacamole is a real crowd pleaser...and guacamole has that eerie look to it anyway. I might also go for one meat item little finger chicken to make it a little heavier. The rest of the menu sounds great!

Guacamole is perfect, why didn't I think of that.

Lily, those all sound divine - thanks!

Disclaimer - not healthy for yah!

One of the magazines I looked through while getting my hair cut had pictures of "mummy dogs". They were cute! Get the cresent roll stuff wrap it around a hot dog or little links and add two eyes made out of ketchup.

I like the guac idea...it can look creeppy on its own.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I accidentally said Mark Bittman....I meant Rick Bayless. Let me know if you can't find the recipe online and I can scan it for you!

[quote="LilySayWhat"]Your menu is missing a meat item and hot dip. Both are remedied below:

            Hot Reuben Dip
8 oz lean corned beef, chopped fine (~1/2” chunks)
4 oz swiss cheese, chopped fine (~1/3” chunks), extra swiss cheese set aside for topping (about ½ cup)
1 C Sauerkraut, drained and chopped fine
8 oz cream cheese, cut into 1” pieces and softened
            ½ c sour cfream
            2 T chopped onion
            1 T ketchup
            2 tsp spicy brown mustard

Preheat oven to 375. Combine all ingredients until mixed well. Top with extra swiss cheese. Bake in a covered pyrex dish (whatever size you have; 8x8 pan works best I find) for 30 minutes, then remove cover and bake until brown and bubbly on edges. Serve warm with party rye. If you are taking it to a party, cook the 30 mins at home and finish it there.

Warm Bacon and Blue Cheese Dip

            7 bacon slices
2 garlic cloves, minced (I use the jar kind myself)
8 oz room temp cream cheese
            ¼ c half and half
            4 oz blue cheese
            2 T fresh chives, snipped
            3 T chopped smoked almonds
            Sliced baguette

Preheat to 350. Cook bacon in a skillet ~ 7 mins on medium heat. Drain excess fat from skillet, add garlic and cook the bacon until crisp. Beat cream cheese in a bowl until smooth. Add the ½ and ½ and combine. Stir in bacon, blue cheese and chives. Transfer to a 2-cup baking dish, cover and bake for 30 mins. Top with almonds and serve with sliced baguette.

Once I get moved into my new digs in a couple weeks I'm making this one! My MIL walked by the screen a couple hours ago when I was reading this and she says 'ohhhhh that will be very good!" LOL! for the recipe!

Thanks for all of the help guys, Lily those dips were great and very easy to make.

Our turn out was TERRIBLE, I'm not sure we'll do it again but the spread was great!

Yep, we had yes RSVP's from about 20 and got 11, including the 3 of us. We also had ~20 maybes, none of which came.

I'm not sure we'll do it again - oh well!

Sadness...I think it's rude if people RSVP and just plum don't show up. No calls or anything. The spread looked really great btw!
