So we turned on the oven and let it rise in there but I think it had been sitting for to long by that point, it rose enough I guess but totally didn't turn out as good as Michele's. And then my frosting looks like crap and my purple is really blue - oh well! I should have just made the cheating version.

I'm sorry I'm just seeing this! Did your yeast proof (get all bubbly and frothy while it was sitting in the warm water with the sugar?) If not your yeast may be dead.

If it did, and it still didn't rise I have no idea....maybe there was a draft where you let it sit....did it rise the first time and not the second? If it rose the first time but not the second, could you maybe have handled it too much in between?? Does that even affect it? I'm always scared to mess with dough too much between rises.

I made a second one this weekend and it came out great - I halved the recipe and all just like I said I would (baked 30 min). Russ thought it didn't have enough filling but I think it was just fine! Though I probably would cut the baking time to 25 min next time but it really wasn't dry.

That's ok - it is what it is. The yeast did proof and at first it didn't rise at all the first time but when we but it in the oven after it had warmed it did, just not as much as I think it should have. It did rise again some more the 2nd time again just not as much as I would have liked.

          Oh well - I tried!
