  • ? about Gewurztraminer

Is this a white wine? I need some for a recipe I'm making for dinner tonight, and can't find a definite answer online (and I don't really drink, so TIA for the idea to just crack it open and try it... ).

Yes - it is a sweet white wine, similar to a reisling. (It's my all time favorite wine.)

If you can't find it in a store a sweet reisling would be an appropriate substitution.

I think it is a wine on the sweeter side but I do not think it is as sweet as a riesling. I heart g-wines but not so much rieslings.

All of the Gewrtztraminers I've tried have been significantly sweeter than reslings...

Really?? Let me know what kind of less sweeter rieslings you guys are having - so I can expand my horizons. I have only tried 3 maybe 4 rieslings and they have all been super sweet...so I do not get them anymore unless requested.

Chateau St Michel is one of the drier ones that I have had. That said, most rieslings are pretty sweet.

Rieslings come in 4 types - dry, semi-sweet, sweet and very sweet (or late harvest or ice wine). Gewurztraminer is closest to dry or semi-dry riesling. Both wines taste sweet and not very dry because they tend to have lower alcohol content.
