  • Grilling Cookbook

We just got a new grill and I'm totally clueless as to what to do with it. So far I've tried grilling by myself twice. Once I almost burned a skirt steak to a crisp and once I grew so impatient with a cornish hen that I finished it off on the stove in a pan. Can anyone point me to a good grilling book? We have a gas grill if that matters.

I've tried flipping through some of Bobby Flay's books at B&N and wasn't crazy about his recipes.

I too am clueless about grilling and since I do most of the cooking now I bought "The New Gas Grill Gourmet" last summer and I love it - it has basics as well as more difficult recipes in it.

I have the Steve Raichlen (sp?) book and I like it. It is at least a few years old though so there might be something more interesting. Here is a link:

I like it because it really is "how to", photos, and a lot of tips on cooking with a grill.

Weight Watchers (believe it or not) put out an excellent grilling cookbook. I bought it last year.

Thanks, I'll see if I can flip through any of them at the local B&N.

I have the good housekeeping grill book - it's pretty good!

I have a friend that is really into grilling -- he makes everything including pizzas and creme brulee on the grill. I'll ask him for suggestions.

              ETA: Here are his recommendations:

. . . my two favorites are: 1) Steven Raichlen’s “How to Grill” (which even includes a crème brulee recipe for the grill); and 2) Jamie Purviance’s Weber’s Real Grilling. I think the Weber book contains more recipes and is not so biased in favor of charcoal. Both books contain at least one picture for each recipe in them and both are printed in softcover.
Oh, and my friend has some great recipes of his own invention. The one that seems to be the biggest crowd pleaser are his grilled potatoes. He slices potatoes into 1/2 inch thick "coins," seasons with salt and pepper, then grills the slices. Just before serving, he makes a slit in each potato slice -- just to the radius, and puts the slices around the edge of a glass filled with bbq sauce or ketchup. Sort of like a potato cocktail. It's really cute and everyone goes nuts when he does this.
