  • Gin?

What is a good brand of gin? I want to send a gift to the woman who got us free tix to Mount Vernon and then took us on a private tour. I had planned to send wine, but her daughter tells me that she drinks martinis and likes gin. ($20 to $30 ?? that will buy a nice bottle, no?)

Also, does anyone have a favorite site for purchasing / shipping said alcohol?

    Thanks!

I like Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray. I drink more Tanqueray because it's cheaper than Bombay. I'm not sure on the shipping. I know some states are more restrictive about shipping alcohol than others.

Second the Bombay Sapphire. It is pretty too. Obviously, I look at my liquor more often than I drink it.

I don't know anything about gin, but my understanding is if you want to ship alcohol to Virginia it has to be through a licensed shipper: http://www.abc.state.va.us/enforce/shippinginfo.html

        For whatever that's worth.

Edit: I can't tell from that site what the rule is on spirits. Usually I've seen these sorts of rules regarding wine.

I would call a local liquor store in her neighborhood and see if they do deliveries. But it would depend on state. In control states, there's no way to get any kind of spirits delivered. Back when I worked in the industry, I was partial to Damrak, it's Dutch and incredibly smooth, but I'm not sure how well distributed it is.

Maybe I'll just go the wine route, then. Nicki said she drinks wine, too -- just has a preference for gin.

Okay - now a good red?? I know what I like, but I assume my tastes are rather ... pedestrian.

I really like 7 Deadly Zins. It's usually $15-20. That's about as expensive as we go in our household.

How much do you want to spend? I think wine is actually more complicated than spirits.

I'd agree- wine has way too many variables.

There are some AWESOME boutique gins these days, too.

I would got the gin route too. Since wine completely depends upon one's personal preferences, a nice tasting wine to one person may not be as good to another.

My favourite drink is Gin and Sprite and I cannot tell the difference between one brand of Gin and another though I'm told Bombay is the best.
