  • Your Go-To Recipe Source

It's a standard weeknight -- you've got some meat defrosting on the counter, some veggies in the fridge, and a full spice rack -- but no inspiration.

    What's your go-to source for a recipe?
Cookbook? Website? TV Show? The ole' family collection?

I happen to be a Food Network addict. I love Alton, Giada, Paula, Ina, the Neeleys... I DVR them all and watch when I get home from work.

I also use a lot of the recipes my grandmother taught me. I come from a traditional southern family so I can't cook those recipes very often or else I would have probably had a triple bypass by now. We're not exactly known for our health food, but d*mn it's good!

Cooks Illustrated. Hands down. In addition to the magazines (which are also bound into a book every year) they have Podcasts and shows too.

          Happy cooking!

I also wouldn't know what to do without allrecipes.com. If I'm actually sitting down and planning my meals for the week, I usually end up going through my cookbooks. My favorites are Southern Living, Taste of Home, and our big blue binder, where we put recipes we like that we're printed from online sources or gotten from other people.

For the original question, I find myself reaching for Fannie Farmer more often than not if I've got the "what do I do with this?" question. If I want to try something interesting and am willing to get ingredients, I flip through cookbooks (especially regional ones) and then go to Google. While I'm not particular about sites, I do usually click through to recipezaar before anything else.

Ahhhh! My bad -- I haven't been on here long enough to recognize people's actual names

I'm going to have to try out this allrecipes.com. I love the idea of plugging in an ingredient and having it give you recipes to match. Seems so convenient!

I like finecooking.com (I have most of the magazines so I can look up stuff that isn't free), epicurious.com, allrecipes.com, and occasionally the food network (mostly to get Ina Garten recipes in the two books I don't have). There are a bunch of baking sites I like too.
