Fudge...I need help

  • Fudge...I need help

I attempted to make fudge for the first time last night from this recipe:

    http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/re...ipe_id=1108208

I didn't have a candy thermometer, so I just used the 12 minute guideline from the recipe. The fudge didn't set fully and it all sticky and useless (though very tasty...)

I bought enough materials to make two batches, so I'm ready to try round two tonight. I did invest in candy thermometer this time around, but anybody got any suggestions?

Good call on the thermometer. I've found that timing it doesn't work well enough. Also, try it again on a clearer day. The nasty weather here yesterday could have been the problem.

Really--I didn't know weather could affect fudge!

It did set this time, but I forgot the butter...it still tastes pretty good, though!

The weather really effects candy making in general.

Glad it turned out better! Fudge isn't as bad as divinity about being weather-dependent, but it can affect the consistency. We try to make it on a clear day and don't open any doors or windows until it's set.

Glad it worked out! I have never made fudge so I didn't have any good advice, but I think the candy thermometer is a great idea.

The humidity and barometric pressure will effect all types of baking! I know... craziness!!

Haha...nope no bad things here--just candy

Unfortunately I made all of this fudge, and now there is no one to eat it. That's the problem with living with 3 college girls--we're all on diets, but I love to cook!
