  • October Cooking Club Menu and Recipes

    Menu

    French Onion Soup
Roasted Beets with Walnut Gorganzola Dressing
    Pumpkin Buttermilk Bundt Cake

I think I'll just do these three things for the first month. October is half over, and lets see what kind of response we get. That, and I just couldn't find any inspiration for more dishes. Also, I have not tried any of these dishes, so I cannot vouch for them. That's why it's an adventure.

Sounds great! I wish I could get my family to eat the choices.

I'm not sure about the beets. I can't do cheese and I know the kids won't eat them-- so I may sub in something or supplement with grilled sandwiches.

They will try the soup - and gobble up the dessert.

I made the pumpkin buttermilk cake yesterday. It didn't turn out well - too much butter maybe? Or I did use homemade pureed pumpkin, possibly it wasn't as thick as canned? It tasted good, it was just very dense and almost wet (even though I let it cook another 5-10 minutes). Any ideas Annie?

I can't wait to try the French Onion Soup recipe. DH and I both love it. Will pick up the ingredients today.

I'll probably pass on the beets. Sadly, no one here would probably eat them.

Probably Saturday night- Sunday night is now permanently ruined by poker night.

I started the soup. The onions are in the oven and smell oh so yummy.

Nellie lives the closest to me. So, you said you want me there on Sunday or Monday?

Have fun, ladies! I can't wait to see the pictures.

I promise I won't keep posting over and over again, but can I just say how happy I am!!!!!! SadI know. The onions are in the oven, and I am cleaning the beets. I'll finish everything tomorrow. I'm saving the cake for Saturday. If I don't have a bundt pan can I use something else, or should I suck it up and buy one? I have never been a baker and am seriously lacking in baking supplies. I'll have to see if Amy has one.

If you can, try to use a bundt pan. I think they are less than or around $20 at Target or Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm glad you are enjoying it, Luanne. I can't wait to hear how it turns out!

This sounds great. I just found out beets are in my CSA box next week. I typically sub them out as I am not a fan, but the recipe looks good enough that I'm going to give it a try.

When my husband finally comes home I'm going to run screaming from the house directly to the Le Cruset outlet and buy myself a dutch oven just so I can make the soup properly.
