  • Cake Pops

I read about the cupcake bites on here and was thinking about making them for A's first birthday but on second thought, I think that's too ambitious for me. Sylvia, Cheri and whoever else has made these, do you think these will be easier?

And do you think they will look funny if I decorate them like the cupcake pops with m&ms and sprinkles?
Any tips and tricks? I can make the cake part the day before right and then just dip/decorate morning of?

    Thanks!!

Yes, the undecorated ones are easier IMO. We made Easter eggs last year and used sprinkles, etc. and they turned out fine. Yes, you can make the balls the night before and then dip them that morning, just make sure they have time to harden. If you're going to put them on sticks you'll want to put the sticks in when you make the balls and not wait until the next morning.

I did cake bites for Christmas - no stick involved : ) They were super yummy! I made them and then froze them with a lot of success!

I made a bunch for my coworkers birthday today and they were a real hit - I used Devil's Food Cake, chocolate frosting and pink coating (I bought it when I got the lollipop sticks at Michaels)

I found out that one bag of the melty stuff only went for 16 balls and the cake/frosting mix made 40 so I have a bunch in my freezer for V Day

Thanks! Great tips! Do you think I can make & decorate them before and leave them sitting out at room temp? Because I don't think I can decorate them like the cupcake pops ahead of time & then refrigerate or freeze them; I think the colors of the sprinkles & M&Ms will bleed, as they get back to room temp.

On some of mine, I used the colored sugar sprinkles and they didn't bleed...but I think "jimmies" or M&Ms would!

Yes, once they're decorated they can be left at room temp for as long as you like.

These look so good. I might have to try and make some too. Are they complicated? Any tips on dipping? I always mess up the dipping part when making chocolate covered peanut butter balls.

I made sure mine were frozen before I dipped them and melted the coating in a pyrex measuring cup in the microwave, every 4 or 5 I zapped it again to get it liquid.

I used a fork to dip mine - then gave them a good shake!

So I was talking to my MIL about making these and she says she makes them by melting chocolate icing and dipping them in that? Any ideas on how and if this works??

Hmm, I've never tried that - I guess my thoughts would be would the frosting solidify after you dipped them??? They need to be a hard ball when you're done.
