Stand Mixer

So my Kitchen Aid stand mixer of 15 years has finally died, the motor just crapped out. I've been told that it will likely cost close to $200 to fix which is almost the price of a new mixer. So would you just go ahead and fix it or purchase a new mixer? It seems that the more I read about the Kitchen Aid mixers that have been made in the last ten years or so the more leery I become to purchase one. What would you do?

Hmm - my Mother in law was able to get hers fixed for more like $50? (If my memory serves me correctly).

Unfortunately I don't know much about brands of mixers... sorry I cannot be of any help.

After researching this and researching this, I finally bit the bullet last year and bought a kitchenaid pro 6 quart. I thought I wanted a Cuisinart one, but just didn't like how plastic-like it was. I love my mixer!

I bought a refurbished one, and I used a coupon code. I got a great deal! Good luck.

I'd probably either take a risk on a vintage used one on ebay (from when they were hobarts), or, as suggested, get a pro one from Costco (great return policy, decent price, metal parts rather than plastic like in the artisan line)
