  • 5 Minute Cake

I got an email a while back for 5 minute cake made in the microwave with a coffee mug. Seemed too good to be true so DH and I tried it. It actually worked and one cup of it was more than plenty cake for both of us to share. It seems like it would be such a fun "baking" activity to do with kids so I thought I would share for those of you with little ones (or those that just want some chocolate cake!).

    5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
    4 tablespoons flour
    4 tablespoons sugar
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    1 egg
    3 tablespoons milk
    3 tablespoons oil
    3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
    1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

    Add dry ingredients and mix.

    Add the egg and mix.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix.

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract and mix.
Microwave for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

There's a 5 minute mug brownie recipe on the web that I do with my kids too. Yummy!

I found the brownie recipe as well! It seems easier - less ingredients, and no egg or milk. I think I'll try this one next time. Thanks!

        4 tablespoons flour
        4 tablespoons sugar
        2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
        dash of salt
        2 tablespoons vegetable oil
        2 tablespoons water
        1/3 teaspoon vanilla
small handful of chocolate chips (optional)

this is beyond dangerous. I ended up being horrible and making a vanilla version of this and adding white choc chips and proceeded to eat the whole thing.

Darling recipe! We really enjoyed making this.

Although this is SUPER dangerous because I always have these ingredients on hand & it is too easy to convince myself to make it since it is "only" a single serving.

I know no one really wants to know this, but....

I calculated the brownie out to about 750 calories (includes 2 Tbsp of semi sweet chocolate chips).

Never mind the calories, if you don't eat the brownie right away it turns into a rock!! I tried to save half for DH but next time I'll just have to eat it all myself. Or try the cake one.

Yes, yes, much better to eat the whole thing all at once immediately to preserve the freshness of the dessert.

Glad it came out so well for everyone. I too will ignore the calorie content. Once in a while it's ok, right?

Ok, so I went back and calculated the brownie calories w/o the chocolate chips and it was 575. Shared between two - possibly around the same as a slice of cake...
