  • Ground turkey

    I've got 20oz of ground turkey that needs to be made into dinner tonight. I'm not feeling very inspired right now.

    Any recipe ideas?

    Tacos, spaghetti sauce can& you can always add to other ground meat for a meat loaf. Sorry...I know those are the obvious.

      I love ground turkey! I'll post links to the actual recipes when I get to the computer, but just off the top of my head: turkey burgers and turkey chili.

      Alright, here we go.

      Turkey Chili: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/lauras-...li/detail.aspx This makes a VERY spicy chili, so follow the second reviewer's modifications if you want to serve it to the kids or wimps like me. I omit the all spice (don't have it), reduce the amount of red paper flakes by A LOT, and use a can of diced tomatoes or diced tomatoes and chiles instead of one can of tomato soup. I also make it with whatever beans I have on hand, usually pinto beans.

        We don't use hamburger at all. Only ground turkey. Pretty much any recipe that calls for hamburger can substitute ground turkey. We use it in nachos, tacos, spaghetti, chilli, burgers, etc.

          Ditto what DD said. I haven't eaten ground beef since I was 7! Ground turkey subs well in nearly everything.

            spicy turkey sloppy joes! So delicious. I think 1 cup or so of spaghetti sauce, 1 tbs ketcup, a little bit of hot sauce. 1 cut up onion and one cut up yellow pepper.

              Runzas. I cheat and buy pillsbury biscuts and roll them out to make the bread dough. I also make them into balls, not rectangles because I am not that talented. I have attached a site that tells you about them and a few variations. My variation consists of sauteeing an onion, garlic, and veggies (usually I dice musroom and zuchinni, my sister likes to put corn in). Then I cook the ground meat, mix it all together. Roll each biscuit flat and put a good sized spoonful of the meat and veggi mix in the center, then pull all the corners together so it is closed into a ball (kind of like a hot pocket). I use a lb of ground turkey and that can fill at least 24 biscuits. Then I cook as the dough instructions say. I either eat it with ketchup or pasta sauce. Its a pretty easy recipe to adapt to whatever you like to eat.

                I almost always end up making spinach meatballs or turning it into breakfast sausage.

                I'm liking the runzas idea. I totally was thinking of some kind of meat pie but couldn't figure out how to do it.

                  Could also make turkey pot pie. It's super easy. You can use Bisquick for the top as a crust if you don't want to make a pie crust.

                      I'm in a comfort/cozy food mood today, too. It's been raining for the last 24 hours straight and I'm in the mood for warm soup. Maybe tonight will be a kielbasa soup night. Or, as DS calls it, "hotdog soup".

                          Ended up making a major variant of the runza stuff.

                          Dough:
                          2/3c water
                          1/3c milk
                          1 egg
                          2 T butter
                          1/4 c sugar
                          1t salt
                          3.5-4 c flour
                          2 1/4 t yeast

                          Dough cycle in the bread machine

                          Filling:

                          1 onion diced
                          6 cloves garlic
                          Sautéed in olive oil, added 20 ground turkey, then chopped spinach after the turkey was cooked
                          Cooled a bit then stirred in 8oz shredded mozzarella. (salt and pepper to taste)

                          I cut the dough into 16 pieces and rolled them out and filled them with an ice cream scoop of the filling. I should've filled them more or a little different bc they were a little bready for my taste.

                          I baked them at 350 for 25 minutes and served it with jar marinara sauce.
