  • Gluten Free Help

We are spending Christmas at my in-laws and I plan to make several of my families holiday tradition cookies. However none of them are gluten free and I'd like to make something that my mother in law can eat. Any suggestions for easy cookies or candy?

    Thanks!

I had the same problem so I decides to make peppermint bark. I used a mix of white and milk chocolate chips. It was relatively easy and yummy.

I don't suppose pretzels are gluten free? Or does anyone know where I can get some that are? I love chocolate dipped pretzel sticks and thought she would like those.

medpedspouse I'd love that recipe when you're home, I'm not in a huge rush.

You could make monster cookies. No flour just oats. I *think* oats are gluten free. Will have to Google that.

Well, just looked it up. Oats are gluten free however they can be contaminated when processed so you would have to buy *gluten free oats* from someplace like wild oats or whole foods.

Could make homemade chocolates with Rice Krispies for crunch. Should be gluten-free. Also, you could check out the health-food aisle at the grocery store. They may have a decent assortment of gluten-free stuff. Whatever you make, check the ingredients list of all the items you use. You'd be surprised how frequently gluten is used as a thickener, so you have to read carefully.

What about truffles? They're just chocolate and cream, some recipes call for a spot of butter. You'd have to temper the chocolate to coat, but it's not that big a deal.

Martha Stewart has a great truffle recipe I've made before. Pretty easy, but be warned, they aren't cheap to make

                    Great suggestions!
I'm GF, so I appreciate this.

I just eat candy, flourless choco cake, rice krispie treats, oatmeal cookies, chewy flourless cookies, etc.

TJs makes a gluten free brownie mix, Betty Crocker makes one too that can now be found in most grocery stores.
At Whole Foods/Sprouts/CM, they have a gluten free section in the freezer that has all sorts of goodies, should you want to not make something yourself.

I made GF peanut butter cookies last year for 13...the puppy chow stuff is also GF. Its Corn or Rice Chex covered in a peanut butter, butter, and chocolate mixture and coated in powdered sugar. Some powdered sugars have gluten in their anticaking agent but many are just a cornstarch. I don't think 13 had any problems with they GF stuff I sent her last year....
