  • Ground Beef Eww

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headline...e/43412432423/

Guess who will not be eating fast food hamburgers for awhile. Or maybe hamburgers in general.

My Facebook feed has had tons of pink slime references over the past few days, and it took me a while to catch on. Good news is I think the major fast food chains have all voluntarily decided not to use the treated meat. It's actually the supermarket stuff that's been cut with the cheap stuff, and the USDA is in the middle of a deal to buy millions of pounds of it for serving as school lunches.

We had teriyaki burgers last night, with beef from our local grass-fed ranch and pink-slime-free-guaranteed, LOL.

Gross. Glad I haven't consumed any beef since the early 90s. Industrialised meat products are so freaky & gross.

I honestly like the taste of ground turkey better, but it has it's own issues. We rarely eat beef and never eat pork.

If you can get a hold of free range, grass-fed only (not even corn finished) beef, then it's a pretty okay thing.
            Otherwise, no thanks. Blech.

Got me some grass fed beef connection here as well as free range chickens. Unfortunately, it is expensive.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I first heard about this nearly a year ago on Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution - it was a great show, though didn't get a ton of viewers. Here is his "Pink Slime" demonstration on youtube:

The same thing is also true for chicken and other meats. Check out what is in pre-make chicken nuggets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEMbW...eature=related

And, this stuff is what most school lunches are made with!

Jamie Oliver's shows are awesome. He has a "Roadtrips" show on BBC, too. That dude is so passionate about not only good tasting food, but good quality, too. And dude is pretty easy on the eyes, so that never hurts, either.

Truly, though -- we consume very little meat, anymore. I just don't like let of it so I don't buy it.
