  • Road Trip Foods Rec needed

We are leaving this weekend for a 5 hour road trip!. Very excited! I've started packing a little and want to bring some prepared foods. I have a big bag full of the typical crackers/chips/cookies. I would love to bring something home cooked and more filling while we are on the road and at the hotel for heavy snacks. Our hotel has a good size refrigerator and microwave. Any ideas?

Sandwiches, fruit, veggies with hummus, cold cerals are pretty standard. Eggs and, believe it or not, pancakes, can be made in the microwave.

A loaf of bread and peanut butter are always good to have on hand. You can always stop at a store when you get to your destination to stock up on staples.

If you want a homemade dinner you can freeze individual portions/containers that will fit in the small micro. Let them thaw while you drive and you won't need to worry about food safety. Chicken tetrazzini? Lasagna? Baked spagetti? Don't forget the blow pops for the car. Those keep cranky kids busy for a long time. Tell them to practice blowing bubbles.

How about a few cans/packets of tuna (or chicken) to make tuna salad for when regular sandwiches get old. Boiled eggs travel well. We always pack a few breakfast/granola bars for mornings when we're inevitably running late for our first activity of the day.
