  • Killer Appetizer

I need a killer appetizer to take to the neighborhood chili cook-off this Saturday! Something that will be ok being outside in the 60 degree weather and will still be good...

    HELP!

Homemade salsa? It's a little time consuming, but if you make a giant batch it might last a little while.

Unfortunately I think I'd have a hard time finding REALLY good tomatoes at this time of year.

        Layered Taco Dip

1 (1 oz.) package taco seasoning mix
1 (16 oz.) can refried beans
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
1 (16 oz.) container sour cream
        2 pouches guacamole
        1 (16 oz.) jar salsa
        1 tomato, chopped
1 small head iceberg lettuce, shredded
        2 cups shredded taco cheese
1 (4.25 oz.) can chopped black olives, drained

        1. In a medium bowl, blend the taco seasoning mix and refried beans. Spread the mixture into a 13x9 inch baking pan.
        2. Mix the sour cream and cream cheese in a medium bowl. Spread over the refried beans.
        3. Spread guacamole over sour cream and cream cheese.
        4. Top the layers with salsa.
        5. Place a layer of tomato and lettuce over the salsa.
        6. Top with taco cheese and olives.

        Optional:
        - Mix cooked ground hamburger meat with refried beans and taco mix.
        - Add green bell pepper and green onions to lettuce and tomato layer.
        - Use bagged iceberg lettuce and chop into smaller pieces to save preparation time.
        - Cream cheese, sour cream, and cheese can be light/reduced fat.

The Knorr vegetable soup mix spinach dip is always a crowd pleaser. Served with King's Hawaiian bread.

The fruit salsa on allrecies with the baked cinnamon tortilla chips is pretty good.

The strawberry goat cheese bruschetta from Pinterest a while back was really good too.

Would you have a place to plug in a crockpot? You could do something warm?

Bacon wrapped anything is always a hit here. Scallops, dates.

I'm guessing someone is already making cornbread? Some mini cornbread muffins with maple butter sounds delicious for fall and goes well with chili! mmmm maple bacon butter sounds so good too...

Oooo, I'm in charge or for bread for our Halloween block party, I'm totally doing that!!

I know this is boring but if there will be lots of kids you could go with cheese and crackers. Parents will love that because lots of kiddos won't eat the chili.

This is more of a dessert and I don't know how you feel about peanut butter at an event with lots of kiddos but it looks awesome: http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everythi...eese-ball.html I'd serve it with apple slices.

Or maybe a pumpkin cheese spread? http://www.recipe4living.com/recipes...ese_spread.htm
