Suggestions please! This week I'm having oral surgery which will leave me without any side chewing surface for six months. I'm thinking over time I might be able to chew soft things with my front teeth but at first it will be a struggle. So far in my idea list I have: mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes with mashed cauliflower and tofu, yogurt with mashed banana or agave/honey, smoothies, oatmeal, applesauce, creamed soup, dal.

Any other ideas. Man am I going to miss crunchy things and bread. Sigh.

Yikes. Do you have a vitamix? It's cold, so maybe a good time to experiment with all sorts of random vitamix soups. That way you can at least get all the veggies you need. You could probably even make like almost liquified turkey white bean chilli etc (which sounds gross, but I bet it tastes almost the same).

I'm not sure what else. Eventually you could probably handle tuna salad or some quinoa in a soup type mixture....

You may also want to try adding some guar gum to smoothies. It tends to really thicken them up and make them really filling. I love almond milk, vanilla protein powder, mint, Greek yogurt, and guar gum smoothies. I sometimes throw kale and or spinach in there too - the mint totally masks the taste.

Butternut squash soup with a little quinoa tastes a bit like Mac & cheese to me. As long as you put just a little quinoa in the mix, you might be able to swallow it without chewing....

I do have a Vitamix. I think it will get a work out.

          Good!!

Also - mashed avacado, hummus (I could eat it plain, but that's just me), diced peaches (or mashed) cream (or whatever dairy or non dairy you eat), and cinnamon.

I had this carrot soufflés over the holidays that was amazing. I'll try to get you the recipe.

After a little while you may be able to get protein pancakes down without chewing. Those fill me up for almost the whole day. Top with Greek yogurt and sprinkle with cinnamon or cocoa powder.

            Slow cooker pulled chicken?

Will you be able to chew at all, or do you need a more liquidy diet? It sounds like at first there will be zero chewing?

It's going to be hard for you to get adequate protein. Pureed lentil soups? I get this grass fed whey protein powder from Swanson. It's pretty good mixed with Greek yogurt. Gah, this is going to be rough. did your oral surgeon have any suggestions? It would be nice if they gave out lists/recipes.

I'm thinking of putting tofu in smoothies and mashed potatoes. Then greens in smoothies. It is going to be hard to eat nutritionally soundly not to mention depressing.

I have to have four failed root canaled teeth extracted and implant posts put in three of them. I also have to have a bone graft to a previously pulled failed root canaled tooth then after that heals in six months two more posts and three crowns on the first three will go on. Even when it feels better I'm not supposed to chew on the implants as it can cause them to fail .

Yeah. I'm thinking zero chewing at first. No straws or hot liquids either.

We put everything in the vitamix to pulverize it, so DH could eat, post wisdom-tooth surgery. It helped a lot.

This soup is out of this world, IMO: http://www.food.com/recipe/egyptian-...til-soup-94673
And Pacific foods Creamy Butternut Squash soup. You could maybe even puree some tofu in, quick and easy.

Bread pudding? Puddings and custards in general? Baby cereal (or tastier, whole grains spun in the blender to a flour-like texture and then cooked)? Scrambled eggs?

I think you're vegetarian, right? Is homemade free-range chicken broth out of the question? It would be a good protein/nutrient punch.

You're probably going to have to do protein powder.

Oh man, I really feel for you. When I had my lingual nerve injury I could not swallow for almost a year. I found a few things that I could "eat", and I ate the same things day after day after day. My diet:

Scrambled eggs (they are slippery and go down easily)
                            Avocado every day
                            Creamy soups
Balance protein bars (they actually melt in your mouth and I ate the cookies and cream one, without any chunky nuts)
                            Boost supplement shakes
Fruit smoothies with soy protein powder
                            Greek yogurt
                            Mashed potatoes

When I was able to start swallowing ravioli and oatmeal, I knew I was starting to heal.

                            Good luck with your surgery!

You might look into baby food books. I made a lot of DS's baby food and we had a book with some tasty combinations.
