  • Thanksgiving Dinners

What is everyone having/making for Thanksgiving dinner?

I'm going to make lasagna rolls and green beans. I haven't decided on a desert though I'm tempted to make a sweet potato pie. O wants meat so I'm going to try and pick up something in a small amount that's premade so I only have to warm it up.

Each year we pick a country or region and teach ourselves how to make traditional dishes. This year we were going with Peruvian but DH kind of went down another path when he decided he just wanted the lobster tails grilled. So, we are having diver scallops on micro greens with a mustard/ basil infused vinegarette. Grilled lobster tails, roasted brussels sprouts with pancetta, parmesan and balsamic vinegar...along with asparagus risotto.

Don't know what to make for dessert yet. I am kind of lost since I do not really have a theme.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

      That sounds awesome, Ides.

I'm not hosting, so I'm only contributing an appetizer, side, and dessert. I think I've settled on bringing cranberry and pomegranate bruschetta, butternut squash macaroni and cheese, and a pumpkin pie.

The mushroom truffle risotto sounds awesome, Heidi!

I get home at midnight on Tuesday and only have one (jet lagged) day to prep with DH on call. We're cooking the turkey and ordering out the sides from a nice kitchen.

We're hosting DH's parents so I'm making a complete but "minimal" meal-- whole roast turkey brined according to the Alton Brown recipe, which turned out perfectly last year, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, Brussels sprouts with bacon, cranberries, and pumpkin and apple pies. All modified to be gluten free. The day after Thanksgiving we will have Swedish meatballs, because those are a necessity in DH's family but there's no way we can do that on Thanksgiving too.

Slush is a frozen blend of fruit juices that you smash up with added Sprite (into a slushy consistency) and also vodka or rum for adults.

It's us and one or two orphans. We ordered Turkey, gravy, dressing, and Apple pie from whole foods, and we're making potatoes, corn casserole, green beans, and carrots, and one orphan is bringing cranberry something and ice cream to go with the pie. I may make some gnocchi as well. It's not a real special meal in my family without something Italian.
