  • KitchenAid Mixer?

We are remodeling and finally I'll have space for a stand mixer. I have never had one, except for when I was a kid. We used my mother's mixer which is about 50 years old!!! No Joke!! She still uses it!!

Anyway, Costco has a kitchenaid mixer- it's professional series 6 quart. Or I could get a different model from Macy's or wherever. I just don't know where to start-- what would be the "best".

We will use it maybe a few times a week, seeing as that's how often we use the hand-mixer (lol-- that's all we've had space for ever!!!). Just basic stuff, I anticipate...

    Any suggestions?
    Peggy

I like the 6qt that Costco has because of the bowl lift - I would also get the Pouring Shield if it doesn't come with one. I've had mine since we got married, 13 years ago and Its a 5 quart and its fine but if I were buying a new one today that is what I'd get.

I'm not sure what version I have, but it came with the Stainless bowl and plastic shield and I love it.

Yes to a KitchenAid...they are worth it. I have the smaller one BUT don't cook/bake for large crowds and I wanted a specific color that did not come on the larger one. I use mine all.the.time. Not just for mixing, for shredding chicken/pork (the paddle is great), I also like the juicer attachment and use the pasta attachments at least every other week. I also have the ice cream maker...although this is a pain because it takes real estate in your freezer. The only thing I do not do (yet) is grind my own meat or make sausage BUT DH wants that attachment next.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I really wanted to love ours but I find it so difficult to use! It looks great. It's a 5 quart, dark blue with metal bowl. It takes up a lot of counter space and weights a ton so it's a PITA to lift in and out of the cupboard. It's hard to add ingredients and scrape the bowl while mixing. I use it maybe once a year while I use the Cuisinart all the time. Definitely not worth the $350 for me

I love mine! When we were registering for wedding gifts DH wanted to add one on. I said no way because I thought it was too expensive, no one would buy it, and people would think we were greedy. He argued with me and then randomly scanned one. I am so glad he did. We did get it as a gift and now I use it all the time.

If we got the 6qt one they have at Costco, could a 6qt stainless steel bowl fit? (The Costco one comes with a glass bowl). Are the glass and stainless interchangeable? It's hard to know based on the websites. We plan to have it sit there on the counter and my kids are always asking to make cookies-- I think they will be using it a lot and leaving a mess for me lol.

In other news, the pantry cabinet we ordered for the kitchen (our only pantry) was all wrong!!!!!!! They screwed up the drawers so badly!!!! Their mistake--- an expensive mistake--- waiting to see what they'll do... Ahhhhhhhh remodeling.

It should be interchangeable. I actually have been considerring getting a glass bowl for mine because each time I make custard, I end up using the handheld mixer since I make it in a glass bowl that I can put in the microwave (complicated recipe).

I've had my Kitchenaid at least 10 years and it still going strong. Plus, it was my grandmother's, so it is likely 15+ years old.

I love mine but it has gotten pretty beat up having moved with it 7 times. I might be looking for a replacement /upgrade.
