  • Slow Cookers and Crock Pots

    Are they the same thing? I feel like a dork for asking, but I am REALLY trying to start "cooking" , even if that means just throw it in and serve it later. I have an old crock pot, but it's small (I don't think it would accomodate cuts of meat, etc very well. Any recommendations are appreciated! I saw an earlier post that mentioned the "Fix it and Forget it" cookbook. That sounds like a good one to get....thanks again!

    Funny that you mentioned this because DH and I just used our crock pot for the first time in a long time. Yup, slow cookers and crock pots are the same thing.

    I've been wondering about those Fix it and Forget it books, but it always seems when I buy a cookbook there are only two recipes that I'm interested in and the rest are a pain in the butt.

      I believe they are the same thing. I used mine to death, literally. I am in the market for a new one. I think it is great for winter/cold weather food. I make black beans, soups, various chicken dishes and stews in it mostly. I also use it to stew BBQ chicken or pork for sandwiches and to keep tomato sauce simmering. Mine was one of those 7 QT removable insert Rival things--only a few years old. The crock insert cracked and slowly leaked into the warming tray. I'm not sure if I should get another of those or not.....I'd try out your old one for awhile to see if you like using it before upgrading. I honestly think 7 QT is a bit of an overkill for my 4 person family. You probably couldn't do a chicken whole, but that is not such a huge sacrifice. They don't look very pretty out of the pot.....juicy, but not brown......

        Angie, do you just put the meat in their with some BBQ sauce? I love love love BBQ.

        Note: if anyone reading this is ever in the Rochester or Syracuse area, you must go to Dinosaur BBQ. Best BBQ ever!

          I have done that with commercial brands of BBQ for a super quick thing. Usually I make this vinegar based sauce and put the chicken breast in with it to cook all day. Then, you can shred it with some forks and have sandwiches or use it over rice. Very yummy. I could live on this stuff. Actually--I have a pot of it cooking downstairs right now!! I get the Dinosaur BBQ sauce at our grocery store sometimes. It is awesome. Is it the same as the Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse??

            Yup, that is the one! I love that stuff!! Check out their website...and I see they opened up a place in NYC. Why does everyone ignore Corning??
