I finally found it! This is the margarita voted the best by the people at the San Antonio Express News, after sampling many, many 'ritas. (There's a Margarita Pour-off every year that has about 25 of the restaurants throughout SA vying for the annual award. It's a great time, but you do need to plan ahead to figure out how you will get home!)
Best Way Margarita
2 ounces 100 percent blue agave tequila
1 1/2 ounces Roses sweetened lime juice (or fresh squeezed)
3/4 ounce Cointreau
Splash of Sweet and Sour mix
fresh lime juice (for the rim)
Kosher Salt, optional
Fill a glass or cocktail shaker with ice. Add all ingredients except the lime juice and salt for the rim. Shake vigorously
Dip the rim of a margarita glass into lime juice and then into slat. Fill the glass with crushed salt.
Strain the margarita into the ice-filled glass and serve.
Alternately, combine ingredients except lime juice and salt into blender filled with ice. Blend until thoroughly mixed. Pour into a margarita glass that has been rimmed in salt and serve.
Serves 1
(We made a bigger batch of these once in SA and they were fantastic. A lot of work but well worth it!)
