  • Pantry Staples

Since we're all inspired by the Easy/Quick recipes, a lot depend on having certain staples around- so, what are the things that you KNOW you always have on hand?

    For me:

    Tomatoaste, canned, sauce

    Pasta

    Frozen mixed veggies

    Rice

Soups (at least one variety of cream soup)

Cheese- cheddar, parmesan, soft and goat (and I refuse to pay extra to buy grated cheese these days)

    Crackers

Tortilla Chips, Salsa, refried beans, pickled jalepenos, etc.

Stouffer's Spinach Souffle. Nikolai and I are both addicted to the stuff.

      beef and chicken broths
      jar of minced garlic
      milk
frozen loafs of french breads and rolls for quick heating(I am a bread snob)
bags of frozen shrimp (easy to toss into pasta, stir fry, nachos, whatever)
      angel hair
      sphagetti sauce
      frozen bags of veggies
      olive oil
frozen cookie dough for quick "baking cookies with mom"

Do I need to confess my Dr. Pepper addiction here too?

          In our house:
Hamburger Helper (and lots of it!)
Rice (not Minute Rice, the real stuff that you buy at the Asian market!)
Cream of chicken and celery soup
          Diced tomatoes
          Bisquik
          Jars of spaghetti sauce
          Frozen veggies
          Cans of salmon and crab
          Black beans, refried beans
          Pizza dough mix
          Cake and cookie mixes
          Muffin mix
          Canned corn
          Pineapple tidbits
          Chinese Sausage and Asian seasonings
Deli meat and chease for paninis
          Vegetable Soup
          Awake is the new sleep!

I forgot to add fresh pico de gallo from the deli. While certainly not a staple, there is so much you can do with it: top a baked potato, add it to burgers, mix it with a can of peaches and use it as a sweet salsa on fish or on tortilla chips, add it to veggie soup to give it some pop. It just makes everything taste fresher.

Essentially, I get a small amount of pico de gallo from the deli and use it on everything.

              Sue,

What do you used canned crab and canned salmon for? I've never found a good use for canned salmon.

I've tried salmon burgers once. ::

I use canned crab for crab cakes and canned salmon for salmon patties. (Super easy and we like them, but you have to make sure you buy the boneless salmon--mix it with egg, form into patties, roll in bread crumbs and brown on the stove).
