Thought I'd post this info here. I was on the Consumer Reports website and I found these recalls:
1) Rival Crock-Pot slow cookers
Handles can break, posing a risk of burns if hot contents spills.
Products: 2.6 million slow cookers made before 9/04 and sold at Kmart, Target, Wal-Mart, and other discount department stores nationwide for $15 to $40. This recall is an expansion of an earlier one involving units sold 1/99 through 5/02. The recall includes Crock-Pot models 3040, 3735, 5025, 5070, and 5445. Model number is printed on UL label on bottom of base. Slow cooker has removable ceramic bowl that sits inside metal base. Rival logo is printed on front of unit above control knob. Base may be round or oval. Unit came in various colors and designs. Date code is stamped on side of one prong of power plug. The first two digits represent the week of manufacture and the last two digits represent the year. Any plug with a date code from 0199 (first week of 1999) to 3504 (35th week of 2004) is included in either this recall or the previous one. There have been 126 reports of handles breaking, including burn injuries.
What to do: Stop using slow cooker and call manufacturer, The Holmes Group, at 800-299-1284, or go to http://www.rivalrecall.com to learn how to receive a free replacement base.
2)Problem:
Approximately 1.8 million Rival Crock-Pot slow cookers have handles on the base that could break and allow the pot's hot contents to spill onto consumers. The Crock-Pots were sold from January 1999 through May 2002 at Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, and other discount department stores for $15 to $40. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been 45 reports of handles breaking, with 14 people suffering skin burns.
Products:
The recall involves models 3040, 3735, 5025, 5070, and 5445, made before May 2002. The model designation is printed on the Underwriters Laboratories label on the bottom of the base. A date code is stamped onto the plug at the end of the power cord. The first two digits represent the week of manufacture, the last two represent the year. Any plug with a date code of 0199 (the first week of 1999) to 1802 (the 18th week of 2002) is suspect. The cooker, which came in various colors and designs, has a removable ceramic bowl that sits inside the metal base. The Rival logo is printed on the front, above the control knob. The bases are round or oval in shape.
What to do:
If you own a Rival Crock-Pot, call the manufacturer, the Holmes Group, at 800-299-1284 or go to http://www.rivalrecall.com for instructions on how to receive a replacement base.
