to have a cookie orgasm? Because if it's possible then I just did...

Man, I went to this cookie exchange yesterday and underneath the professional women's attire of 90% of Washington, DC, we have some excellent cooks. Probably the same sort of drive for excellence that allowed all of us to end up here in the first place.

anyway- my friend Margaret made these chocolate cookies and in the middle, yes there's a full-fledged caramel...

I'm going to have a sugar induced nervous breakdown now...anyone know what the cure for a sugar OD is? Insulin? should I renew my poor dead cat's insulin presription for the holiday season?

Any chance you'll post the recipe for the cookies with the caramel in the middle? That sounds awesome! Re: Cookie orgasm--sounds even better than the real thing!

Jenn, I have good news for you. You can get insulin over the counter (that's what I do for the dog).

Those sound soooo good. At the bakery, we are making a chocolate brownie with a dollop of bourbon caramel in the middle. Oh...my....God (pounding table).

        ahhh, Nellie-

My all-time favorite caramel experience (it was a multiple orgasm) was when I worked at the chocolate factory and we were making dark chocolate caramels.

When they'd come out of the tunnel (a blast of cold air to set the chocolate before we'd put them in the paper cups) the chocolate was chilled but not cold and the caramel what still molten in the middle.

        yeah, baby...

            Margaret McGowan's Chocolate Caramel cookies:

            Chocolate Caramel Surprise Cookies

            Ingredients:

            1 cup of butter, softened
            1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
            2 large eggs
1 teaspoon if pure vanilla extract
2 ½ cups of all purpose flour
            ¾ cup of baking cocoa
            1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 ¼ cup of chopped pecans
            3 11 oz. bags of Riesen (chocolate caramels) {if in a pinch Rolos can be substituted}

Pre-heat the oven to 375 oF. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or silpat. Combine the butter and sugars in a large bowl and beat until smooth and creamy. Add in one egg at a time and the vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Combing the flour, cocoa and baking soda in a bowl of bag and with a heavy wooden spoon mix them in thoroughly. {sometimes I get impatient and use natures spoons, my hands}Stir in ½ cup of the chopped pecans.

In a separate bowl combine 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and the remaining cup of chopped nuts. Shape about a tablespoon of dough around a Riesen and form a ball. Dip the top of the ball in the sugar and nut mixture and place on the cookie sheet. Space the cookies at least 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-13 minutes until the cookies are slightly cracked on top. Remove from the oven and leave on the baking sheet for at least 3 minutes or longer if you can. Transfer to wire cooling rack to completely cool.

            Recipe makes 5 dozen.

Ohh that sounds good. I wish I had known about them last week. I just had a baking session with two friends. We made mini black and whites, chocolate chip and sugar cookies. I got to try this caramel delight!

                    annie-

                    did you make the cookies?

I may try my hand at them this week. I just made Key Lime sugar cookies and they're awfully good, too.

Not to the "when Harry met Sally" level, but quite tasty.

Can you post a recipe for the mini black & white cookies? My husband loves these.
