I love making hamantaschen! It's been a few years since we did but I'll look for the recipe I used.

This reminds me of the match. Last time we made them was right before the match during a HUGE blizzard in Denver. I have a cute picture of DD nekked with socks rolling out the dough. My off the top of my head recommendation -- don't eat a lot of dried fruit filled hamantaschen when you are trapped with your family by snow in your house. u: :!

I made them 3 years ago, broke a mixer and threw the whole thing out.
        Now we buy.

I sold the book that I used last time but did find one that looks good in another book. It's a little long to type out, so if you want it just PM me your address and I'll send a copy. There is also a recipe with it for prune, apricot, and poppy seed filling -- or use jam.

I have also made a recipe we got from DD's preschool but I don't think I have that around either. You might be able to find it online? There were only 4-5 ingredients (flour, powdered sugar, margarine, maybe an egg?) and they rolled nicely. We used jelly and chocolate chips for filling. Kids really enjoy rolling and shaping the triangles.

Fluff -- you broke the mixer? Wow!

Hmmm...the one I had called for powdered sugar, I think. That looks like it should work just fine. Have fun!

I think I might make some too. DD has so much fun with them. When is Purim this year?

My husband very briefly had me convinced that "hamantaschen" translated to "fruit hat" in German. (German being more believable since he speaks some and I don't, whereas I'd know right away that he speaks no Yiddish etc.) It must be fun having a gullible wife. Also it's fun to say and to picture the concept of "fruit hat."

It must have been a wimpy mixer or on its last leg for cookie dough to do that. The thought of the batter and mixer going in the trash cracked me up.

Best part of Living w/ the Nice Jewish Girl in college was the FOOD!

and to this day I get pangs for her grandmother's kugel (it had raisins in it and it ROCKED), her chopped liver (which I loved and my friend hated) and her very airy matzo balls. Man, one never lacked for fab food. (and they never made us eat gefilte fish...)

Doesn't it mean something like 'triangle hat' or am I just a silly gentile? I could swear that is what Svetlana, my Russian / Orthodox Jewish former coworker said.

She could have been messing with me, too. I never liked her. But the triangle thingys were good. Maybe we'll make some in the name of embracing the world's culture.

I thought it meant Haman's hat?

Ahhhhh --- and Haman's hat was triangular in shape! I knew it had something to do with a triangle hat!!! Thanks for clearing that up.
