  • Anyone cooking a Halloween meal?

We're having family over for dinner Halloween night before we take the kiddos trick-or-treating. I think it would be fun to cook a themed dinner targeted towards the adults (since the only child who will be eating is 2 and really won't care).

Has anyone ever cooked a Halloween meal? Please share any ideas you have. Thanks.

I've never cooked a Halloween-themed meal, but I do like to make a tradition of sorts.

When I was a kid, my mom always made 'mashed potato pie' for me before trick-or-treat. It was my fave (a minimal veggie version of shepards pie), and I looked forward to it. As a parent, I've decided that we'll be making taco soup (crock pot) on Halloween. Super easy - frees time up to deal w/the kids, yummy and warms you up either before or after trick-or-treat.

What about pumpkin ravioli? Or butternut squash soup? Apple cider to drink? Gourmet caramel apples with dark and white chocolate?

I really like the Pumpkin Ravioli idea. I will probably have to modify that recipe to make it a little easier for me - I don't trust myself to make my own pasta.

Don't laugh at me, but do you think the canned pumpkin might work? I know, I'm lazy.

No, you are not crazy, I would use canned pumpkin.

Also, I think some specialty shops actually carry pumpkin ravioli already made, (I read that in the recipe reviews) you would just need to make the sauce for it. You can search online too, there are a couple of different sauces.

I agree, canned pumpkin would be just fine. For baking, it is better to use because the moisture content is more reliable. You can use wonton wrappers for the pasta squares. Or just find some packaged pumpkin or butternut squash ravioli as Heidi suggested. That should be easier this time of year.
