    Beef Brisket in Beer

3-4 lb beef brisket (fresh, not corned) smaller will work too, we usually just cook 1.5 - 2lb for the three of us...some leftovers usually...well okay..I eat it all....great part is brisket is cheap

    1 large onion (spanish)
    1/2 cup chili sauce
2 heaping tablespoons of brown sugar
    1 heaping tablespoon of garlic
    1 can of beer
2 Tablespoons of flour (for gravy thickening)

Fat side up. Season with salt and pepper. Place in 13X9 metal baking
dish.Cover with onion slices. In bowl, combine other ingredients
except flour. Pour over meat. Seal tightly with foil. Bake 350 degrees
for 3 1/2 hrs. Uncover and bake for 30 more minutes basting
occasionally. Remove meat and onions. Use flour to thicken remaining
juices for sauce/gravy. Slice diagonally across grain.

The gravy is one of the most important parts so keep it all!

I guess I should add....cut the onion in slices....so you can lay them on the top of the meat....like big discs....

It also unfortunatly makes the whole house smell great...for hours...

I'm going to try it tonight. We'll see if the kids will eat it. (DH and I will love it - of course. ) I'm going to try your traditional oven method. Have you tried it with a crock pot?

Is this the Asian chili sauce that is just made out of chilis, or something else? I used the Asian stuff and was not fond of the outcome. DH loved it tho.

I thought I was wrong. My fault. I kept thinking "brisket is usually sweet ... I can't figure how this goes with it!"

                        Duh.

Yeah, it is on the sweet side of the equation for sure...the brown sugar helps with that too....we use corona too...but experimenting with different types of beer might be fun too...

                              Finally in the crock pot.

I used a lager because that's the closest to a Corona we have in the house.

I'm making the mashed potatoes with it.
