  • Fresh Ginger...need emergency help...

I need ginger advice. My recipe for tonight calls for 3 quarter size slices of peeled fresh ginger.

Soooo...I have a ginger root at home. Do I just..peel the outside of it with a carrot peeler and then cut a few little slices?

No, you peel it with with a paring knife and then cut the slices. That's it!

I didn't notice that the ginger root had...a peel It just looks like...a root. I assume that you mean I should use a paring knife to remove the top harder layer of the root?

It's just too tough for a vegetable peeler- it's really a root and the outer layer is about 2mm thick. It peels very easily though. Once you see the yellow under the brown skin, you're there. and it's supposed to be kind of woody, don't panic.

Remove the brown paper-y looking stuff. It's thin and a paring knife would be fastest/easiest.

honestly i just use a microplane and don't even bother peeling. whatever peel gets in there is in such teeny-tiny pieces that you can't taste it.

yeah I just use a regular knife to take off the outside, and I remove the first dried out slice also.
Caution - I broken 2 or 3 garlic presses before realizing they're not made for ginger.
