  • Good Cranberry recipe

Ok, I checked the Thanksgiving thread and didn't see one - does anyone have a good recipe for a cranberry side? We always get the canned stuff but would like to have a "real" cranberry side this year as well. There are tons of recipes out there but would love to have one that is tried and true.

    Thanks!

I have made these two and both are good:

Cranberry Sauce w/ Port and Dried Figs

Epicurious doesn't seem to have the recipe, but I've made the Cranberry Sauce w/ Raspberry Vinegar from the Nov 1994 issue and everyone loved it. I'll type that out if you want. It calls for 1/2 c of raspberry vinegar which I happened to have and that made it easy.

I think the cranberry sauce w/ crystallized ginger sounds really good. I might make it this year.

Or I will make the raw relish. It's different because it's not saucy and is crunchy but I love it. I think it is good with a tangerine instead of an orange.

Thanks, Nellie - if I can find figs I'll probably try that first one!

We're trying one from Eating Well magazine this year- with raspbarries and crystalized ginger.

Where do you find crystalized ginger?

You can usually buy it in a jar with the other jarred spices or in a bulk section like they have at Whole Foods or Wild Oats sort of place.

Besides the usual spice brands, two others to look for --- Ginger People or Reed's. Generally in the baking section. (I think crystallized ginger is addictive stuff ).

            Good luck!

Lily, I'm sorry I didn't look in that thread, just the other Thanksgiving recipe one. That one looks REALLY easy!

I forgot you posted that, Lily! It does sound good and you can't go wrong with orange and cranberry.

I made it last night, Lily. It smells wonderful (I love cardamom).
