Did you read the whole Red Rising trilogy? I just finished it last week.

          • My summer reading project was Infinite Jest. It's delightful but I've only made it halfway through. I'm not going to quit but this summer has been all about turning off. IJ is anything but easy.

            • I just googled that book, MB. The review article I found referenced "support blogs." For reading a book. Oi. I am thinking I have a bit more brain cell regrowth to go before I can tackle that kind of a work. O_O Even if I had the synapses, I'd probably need to do some warm-up books and then go full "How to Read a Book" on it.

              I'm glad you're enjoying it!!

LSW, I just took out "Little, Big" from the library on your recommendation, and I'm going to try to do a mother/daughter book club type thing with "The Magician's Elephant" (DD is currently reading another Kate DiCamillo.)

                • Anyone have pregnancy/ parenting books recommendations?
My mom picked up an old copy of What to expect when you're expecting. My cousin sent me The baby owner's manual.

                    • My favorite pregnancy/birth book is Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Year. My favorite infant parenting book is probably some combination of Happiest Baby, and the Sears Baby Book.

                        Yes.

                        Others:
                        The Birth Partner
Birthing From Within (crunch crunch, but visualizations help me)
The Mayo Clinic Book of Pregnancy and the First Year (goldmine)

I also recommend a textbook or two specifically for nursing, should you go that route, and a support group run by an IBCLC, if at all possible. Two kids in, still needed troubleshooting as they grew.

                        • Yes to all these! I prefer the Mayo book to What to Expect. Also loved Penelope Leach and Birthing From Within.

                            • I've been meaning to post about what I'm reading. I recently finished Angle of Repose by Stegner and Why We Can't Wait by MLK. I currently have Crossing to Safety by Stegner, and tomorrow I will receive Generations by Strauss and Howe. I'm on the wait list at the library for The New Jim Crow, and after reading "Letter to my Son" I'm thinking of getting Coates' 2015 National Book Award winner, Between the World and Me, or maybe one of the 2016 winners like The Underground Railroad (fiction) or Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America (nonfiction) -- or even the finalist, Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right.
