I am S-T-R-U-G-G-L-I-N-G to get through the audio version of "Orange is the New Black". I loved the Netflix series but the book is borderline insufferable. For someone who knowingly and willingly trafficked drug money internationally, Piper Kerman sure can play the victim card.

I'm halfway through The Book Thief on my Kindle. Is it terrible I'd never heard of that book until I saw a trailer for the movie? I can see how it will be a great book to adapt into movie form, though. The way it's written will lend itself very well to cinematography.

Welcome, Kandt! 3 page chapters would bother me too.We just started a book club this month if you're interested. After, well, weeks of discussing how to go about it we voted on book recommends and are reading highest votes first. Goldfinch won, I just started it this week! We're discussing much yet but in the next couple weeks I imagine the talks will begin.

I'm in the middle of The Monster of Florence, which was recommended to me because I loved The City of Falling Angels. Enjoying it so far!

I'm reading We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler and I am LOVING it. It's sharp and funny, reminds me of Where'd You Go, Bernadette? which I completely adored.

I'm in the middle of Hugh Howey's latest, Sand, and just as sucked in as I was with Wool. Moreso, maybe, because the stories are all shorter, and punchier.

In addition to the book club book I've been reading a short story collection, "Tenth of December" by George Saunders. It's a weird experience, reading short stories. They drop you in and give you the tools you need to figure out WTF is going on and then they basically leave you hanging. I actually really enjoy this, I much prefer it to a long long series that tries to give you ALL THE BACKGROUND and then tries to tie up ALL THE ENDS and inevitably fails. Still, I can only read a couple of stories at a time before I get overwhelmed by all the jumping between completely different plots and settings. This author really does the short story well though.

SD I just read Tenth of December (well, listened to it). I loved it, oddly. The first couple of stories I didn't enjoy but there were several that I thought were awesome (I particularly loved "The Seplica Girl Diaries). I don't read many short story collections, but I also read "We Live in Water" by Jess Walter and adored it - I also recommend that one! I also just wrapped up "The Cuckoo's Calling" via audio book and thought it was so-so. The writing was good but it was a touch boring...

I finished The Goldfinch last night and completely loved it. I started "The Silent Wife" via audio book two days ago, and started "The Rosie Project" on my Kindle this morning.

I just finished "Pastrix", and "Sheet Music" (marriage book). I am currently going back through our Mayo book re: pregnancy, but I'd like to pick up something fun, soon.

I just started Ghost Man. I try to,read all the Edgar Award nominees each year. I'm a mystery junkie.

I'm also reading The Quants, nonfiction about quantitative finance and the latest Wall Street meltdown. My son is considering quant finance as a major in college.

I've got The Plantagents half done. History, my final love.

I've inherited my grandmother's habit of having three books on the bedside from different genres!
