I feel the same way about The Giving Tree one. I hate that book.

We just had this conversation about "The Giving Tree." I have a theory , and a recent facebook post, by a friend I have known since childhood reinforced it. She after a long day at work was planning to get in and work out by swimming laps. Her teen son complained "ah mom we were going to get in!" Seeing him still in his street clothes she said: " I cut my laps short." To which he said :"We're getting in now!" So she said she got out of the pool and posted that the boys were finally getting in Almost an hour LATER& that she should've just done her work out,'" complete w/an "LOL." I posted something along the lines of: "Not cool boys , it sure was extremely nice of you L."

They seem to pull a lot of "dick moves" on her and when I gently chastised them/called them out, her response was :"it's what we moms do." I so badly wanted to reply: "The Giving Tree, eh?"
It just rubs me the wrong way when I see dickish behavior towards moms and the moms who cave towards it because they believe "That's what moms(read martyr moms) do."
Oh well to each theire own.

It's like applets and cotlets candy I thought--- I like that stuff.

Yeah -- the Turkish delight candy I've gotten in Canada is kind of like sticky marshmellow-y stuff with some flavoring. I wouldn't betray my family for it, but it isn't awful.

I didn't know there were types of Turkish Delight. I've had the rosewater stuff, and it's not good. And, I love me some sugar.

My favorite of the dick moves was Sherlock. So very true. Poor Watson. Lol

I think the publisher deleted the subtitle:

The Giving Tree: A childhood primer in codependency.
