OK- the Match Day posts about the Bridal Bargains book that we all demanded that Eric buy made me wonder what other 'required' reading/reference books does everyone swear by (I mean other than the dictionary, thesaurus and Strunk and White's Elements of Style)
Baby Bargains is another classic for those who are impending parents.
For travel I really like the DK books for the maps and the history.
For military people (especially career military people) "Service Etiquette" while extremely old school is very helpful in determining the how-tos of miltiary social situations. (It's not likely that we'll ever be invited to the White House for dinner but if we do, we're prepared.)
